Dyke Beauty

What it is

Once upon a time, there was a  femme dyke with a fluffy little dog and adorable girljock partner, who loved making art, her two kids, playing punk rock, doing health & politics journalism for queer and radical venues, animals, books—all normal enough dykey pursuits—who also loved fashion, style and make up—and even the philosophical arguments involved in how women see themselves, present themselves to the world, and act in the world. So she started doing makeup and styling for: performers in all genres; people who sought transformation; and just for fun. As an attorney and longtime activist, e.g., in human rights of sexual minorities, racial justice in the legal system, women’s reproductive freedom, AIDS education, and protecting the First Amendment rights of demonstrators and civil dissidents in New York City, she enjoyed others’ underestimation for pragmatic reasons. (Smile, lawyers!) She wanted to create an unbiased resource for the socially transformative personal arts especially for LGBTI women which not only presented accurate, useful, health-conscious, non-commercially-motivated information, but acknowledged our issues and celebrated our own amazing beauty.
